Getting enough working capital for a new or established firm is one of the most common applications for an SBA 7(a) loan. Without the money to pay staff, buy products, and advertise, no firm can function. However, you may not always have access to the working capital you require for all of these procedures, in which case an SBA loan can be quite beneficial.
Available SBA Programs
The Small Business Administration's 7(a) lending program is currently the most often used loan program. However, borrowers may also qualify for a number of additional specialty programs in particular situations. Provided your company needs working capital, it can be eligible for one of these specialist loans if it fits into one of the target demographics.
One such financing program supports foreign trade and is designed to support companies who sell abroad. The $4 million guarantee provided by the SBA program will give you the working cash you require for your export operation. There is a scheme called Export Working Capital that will advance up to $5 million to businesses engaged in domestic export sales to pay transaction costs. Such loans call for the Export Management Company to take title to all products being exported and that your company has been in operation for at least a year.
Government-sponsored CAP Lines are revolving lines of credit that can be used to finance seasonal companies or other transient requirements. These loans give companies with a sufficient amount of accounts receivable and a certain amount of inventory access to working capital. The SBA Microloans, which are backed by the government up to a value of $50,000, are another lending program that is geared toward firms needing smaller amounts of working capital.
